in Toruń
international student blog

What happened last weekend? Yes, Harry and Meghan married. But beside that there was Juwenalia in Toruń. Three friends and I were there… at least physically.

I am going to tell you about some boring stuff- about my first presentation here in UMK. However, as all of us know- If you felt in Erasmus + studies, you will need to return your scholarship, if you will need to return your scholarship, you will need to do extra work, if you will need to do extra work, you will not have time to spend it with your friends, if… (you can use your own imagination to continue this by yourself) … But let me begin my story…

Going abroad is a strange thing. People meet others, try and learn to adapt. However, adapting to total foreigners (or even to Poland !) can somehow be easier than adapting to our own peers. When confronted to the full-force of the Erasmus life, it is possible to struggle… even more so when you’re the weird one. Like me.

I’m not a motivator or a great person who can give advices because i’ve been through a lot of experience hehee I am definitely NOT. I’m just 22 years old pea-sized girl who loves learning something new such as another’s culture or the language, sometimes travelling, sometimes writing either in my blog or just filling up paper with an absurd things, sometimes watching drama, start to more serious about photographing.

From 18th till 20th of May 2017 students of Nikolaus Copernicus University in Toruń are taking over the City of Torun. For three days Toruń will be the center of students life. Read this article and check out what you can expect on this year Juwenalia.

Home is where you have a comfortable bed, where you can sing out loud in the shower, in your room or even in the corridor. Home is where the food is all prepared and waiting for you, it is where your besties are always there for you to share the happiness with, to make you laugh and to wipe our tears away. Home is where the love is.

If you dont know what to cook today try delicious Ukrainian stuffed peppers.

Here is the recipe.

If you have second thoughts about spending your Erasmus in Poland, check out this list and make a right choice. Because it is one of the most important decisions of your life. And you don't want other Erasmus students to have better stories than you.

SocialErasmus Week is organized twice a year by the coordinators of the SocialErasmus project, to unite both international and local students across Europe in activities and events that will make a positive change in their local community.

What our Erasmus+ students and Erasmus Student Network did in last days, check out below!

Every one of us has dreams, and we eager to achieve all of them. Education is the most important path that makes our mission easier.

SocialErasmus combines Erasmus exchange and youth volunteering with the slogan ‘Leave Your Mark’, inspiring local and Erasmus students to enrich the society by taking part in the activities.

“Kraków is one of my favorite places on earth.
It is a medieval city full of young people.
A wonderful, striking combination.”
(Jonathan Carroll)

I’m not that kind of man who loves sports but I wanted to try something different for this summer so I enrolled to the course „On the river, on the lakes – the secrets of water tourism”. Besides getting knowledge about water tourism, you have the opportunity to go on a canoe trip!

Orientation Week for Erasmus+ students is organised at the beginning of each semester.
It's aim is to introduce our Erasmus+ students to the traditions, life and study at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

When I searched some information about Torun a William Butler Yeats adaptation quote came towards me: "There are no strangers in Torun, only friends you haven't met yet." It is a big surprise for me but every word is true. But I would like to start with the beginnig where everything started: with the Orientation Week.

I am getting close to the end of my Erasmus semester and getting instant puppy eyes everytime someone mentions going back home. So because I now am wise, experienced and modest, I thought I would give you some guidelines to help you make the most of this amazing experience that is Erasmus.

When you feel happy somewhere, you never want to leave it.. I want to live my life as an Erasmus student! Forever! I live my life here like I want! Once Erasmus, always Erasmus!

Many of my friends ask my what was the reason for me to go on Erasmus? And when I'm answering some of them are amazed some don't understand. But I want also to tell you what this Erasmus became to me.

We like to party and we won’t ever stop. Life is our party.

Some say good things always have an end. I say not. Good things have sequels. My Erasmus experience has more to say about it.

We as human beings some part of our life, we need some changes, not just because we are bored in the same things but because improving ourselfs and expanding our outlook.

Before I came here during the 2015 summer, I always wanted to go somewhere that I have never been and meet people that I have not know them before. Then I found myself in Torun if you ask me How I decided to come here , I swear I can not define how it had happened.

Hello, lucky people going to Torun! In this post I will tell you some tips and reminders of what to bring with you on your Erasmus journey.

Suddenly she started asking me questions like: "Why are you going to Torun?", "Where will you live?", "And what are you studying?", "Scholarship and in what amount?". The last was a question: "And in Smolensk, on which place the plane crashed to a monument?"

Life gives you lemon? You sqeeze them into people’s eyes or you make lemonade, is your choice, but Torun gives you 20 minutes of FREE RIDING BIKES! EVERYTIME YOU RENT THEM!

Erasmus experience. This is a glimpse of life that changes visions about travelling abroad. “Living like a local” story.

“You have 15 minutes before crossing the border. Prepare your documents!” Meanwhile a baby was crying in the next compartment.

I remember the day when I got here. I remember the day when I first saw pictures of this beautiful little town where I will live for 5 months. I remember saying: „Hope I will fit in“. I would really like to say that I managed to do that, and that my hope became reality, but now I am not sure at all, and I will tell you why.

I never expected to do my student exchange here in Torun. C'mon, let's be honest – I've never heard about Torun until I saw it on Erasmus list at my University. But somehow, I decided to put this pittoresque city in my application and one year later I'm having the best time of my life.

Mislav Lugonjic 2016-06-22

It was a long time ago since I arrived in Toruń and now it is real time to leave for me. In a way, I can’t wait to be home, to see my family, my friends, to see my beautiful Black Sea this summer, but in another way I would have liked to continue this Erasmus experience, to see more the people that I like and of course to eat more the food that I like here in Poland. I don’t really like the endings; I escaped from one „end story” in February, when my friends from first semester went home. I was saying goodbye to many people maybe for a week. I was so glad I wasn’t in their situations to say goodbye to everyone, to Toruń, to Poland.  Luckily I prolonged my stay and it was the best decision I have made!

Do you know what polish students are waiting every summer semester? JUWENALIA! This is their student’s holiday – a three-day festival with a lot of beer and concerts.

A well known proverb tells us: “Never miss an opportunity” and that’s why I participated in Food {hacks} 2016 Hackathon in Berlin at the first days of April. I wasn’t alone there, my friends were with me. To understand who my friends are and what Hackathon is, I would like to suggest reading some words below, my dear reader.

I put all my fears in a sack and I just throw them in the biggest black hole of the Galaxy. That's what I like to say to myself when I begin new projects. Erasmus+ mobility gives me the opportunity to develop my skills and get a better social interaction with different people. So far I am still doing it good.

Florian Bar 2016-05-04 is one month old but still full of energy and young spirit. If you want to find out how to survive May in Toruń, keep reading.

Nico Copernico 2016-05-01

For sure, you are asking „Is this a joke?“ but even though it's the first of April, it's not a joke.
