Scientific Research

The Nicolaus Copernicus University conducts a wide range of research aimed at both the development of science and the commercialization of its achievements. Toruń scientists are the creators of, among others the first device for eye examination using spectral optical tomography, as well as the authors of the pioneering concept of searching for dark matter by means of an optical atomic clock. At the University there are different partnerships preparing revolutionary products from various disciplines, including biotechnology, cognitive science, nanotechnology, computer science and medicine.

Rankings and Accreditations

The Nicolaus Copernicus University is one of a few Polish universities listed in the international QS rankings, Times Higher Education, U.S. News Best Global Universities, CWTS Leiden and CWUR. In the most prestigious national ranking of “Perspektywy “, it is constantly in the group of the five best Polish universities. The Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management has obtained the prestigious AACSB business studies accreditation, the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics has obtained the EUR-ACE accreditation for the study programmes of Automation and Robotics as well as Technical Physics in accordance with the ENAEE standards. The Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management has also started the EQUIS and AMBA accreditation procedures.

Sports

The University Sports Centre offers students over 30 forms of physical education classes. In cooperation with the Academic Sports Association it runs 23 student sports sections and organizes various tournaments. Students – athletes compete in national, European and world championships, and the Olympic Games. The USC also has a modern infrastructure including 25-metre swimming pool, two sports halls, a gym, and a fitness room. The University has launched a two-track career, thanks to which talented athletes can flexibly combine their sports careers with their studies.

 

The location of Toruń on the A1 motorway means that the Nicolaus Copernicus University is perfectly connected with the whole country, and thanks to the airports: in Warsaw and, above all, in Bydgoszcz (with Lufthansa lines and the main communication hub in Frankfurt am Main) with the whole world. Poland is the eighth largest economy in the European Union and one of the fastest growing economies in the Old Continent.
